Espresso is the base of most of the coffee drinks.

    What does it mean?

The word espresso comes from the Italian espress which means "express."

    How is it made?

Espresso is a concentrated beverage, brewed by expressing or forcing out a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans.

Espresso often has a thicker consistency than coffee brewed by other methods. It has more caffeine per unit volume than most beverages. It is the base for other drinks, such as a americano, latte, or macchiato.

The original espresso served without sweetener or a mixture of milk and served in small glasses are called 'shot'. Shot glasses are small and thick glasses that can be used to measure the number of milliliters of coffee produced.

This volume of the shot glass is about 30 ml.

But for most of us, espresso can be too thick. So many of us put water in it to dilute it. That is what we call “Americano".
